Annabel McKechnie will take to the field one final time this Sunday as she announces her retirement from football.

The 31-year-old has enjoyed a 16-year career and bows out as one of the club’s all-time greats.

Joining Forest at 15 years old, the Nottingham-born forward went on to make her first-team debut at 16 and racked up a stellar 182 appearances for the club along the way.

McKechnie leaves The Reds as the side’s fourth all-time appearance maker and has also scored 44 goals for Forest.

The forward made the majority of her appearances between the 2005/06 season to 2016/17 season but stepped aside from the game for two years to have her son. McKechnie then returned to play for the club’s reserve side for the first-half of the 2019/20 campaign as she regained her match fitness before making her first-team return in January 2020.

No stranger in front of goal, McKechnie also recorded some memorable goalscoring moments in the Garibaldi. She ended the 2015/16 season as the team’s top goal scorer with an impressive 22 goals in 32 appearances. McKechnie also bagged unforgettable goals for the club with strikes against Sunderland in the 2009/10 season, Huddersfield Town in the 2016/17 campaign and her final goal for the club came in October 2020 in a dramatic draw against Hull City.

The club will always be grateful for Annabel’s invaluable contributions to Nottingham Forest during her time here and wish her a very happy retirement.
