Nottingham Forest Under 23 midfielder Josh Barnes has joined National League South side Truro City one a one month loan deal.

Barnes, 20, plays predominantly on the left of midfield and has been with The Reds since the age of eight.

The Forest youngster also featured for the first team under Chris Hughton during pre-season and will join the White Tigers to gain further first team experience.

Having also penned a new contract to extend his stay with the club recently, Barnes says he's now keen to continue his development.

"I'm buzzing to have signed an extended contract and I've been here since I was 8 years-old so it's another step forward for me," he said.

"I've managed to work my way through the age groups and had a taste of the first team in pre-season which was a great experience.

"The interest from Truro has been there for a while now but COVID put a dent in that, so it's great to get that sorted as it'll be good for my development.

"I had a taste of playing with Truro a couple of times in pre-season and the lads were really welcoming, so I'm excited to go there and get more minutes under my belt."

Speaking about the move, Forest U23s Head Coach Andy Reid says it's another positive step for Barnes to gain experience at first team level.

"Josh is somebody who's been in our system for a long time and he's progressed nicely through the Academy," he said.

"The time is right for him to go out on loan and this is the next step for his progression. We've got a great link with Truro and we've sent the likes of Will Swan there before who had a great spell.

"It'll be a great experience for him and one that he'll come back in better shape from.

"We feel that Josh getting first team football in a mens league week-in week-out will only benefit him further and we look forward to seeing how he progresses."

The Under 23s are in action this evening against Clifton All Whites at the Norman Archer Memorial Ground and tickets can be purchased here.
