The 18-year-old has impressed this season, making the step up to Under 23s football, and his exciting pace has caught the eye on the wing for The Reds, scoring the winning goal in the recent win over Sheffield United.
Gibson-Hammond joined the club as a first-year scholar having previously been on the books at Tottenham Hotspur and is delighted to have signed his first contract.
He said: “I am buzzing. It is the first step, my first pro contract, and I am delighted to have signed with this great club. I want to kick on now and look for the next one.
“I have been playing football since I was five with my local team in London. I have come so far and now I want to push on further.
“I am a fast winger, I like to get at my player and produce a bit of magic on the pitch to entertain. I have spoken a bit to Alex Mighten about the set-up here and things, he has obviously been here since he was young and it is good to chat to the players who have been at the club for a long time because they know everything about the club.”
Gibson-Hammond was a regular with the Under 18s last season, earning the call-up to join the Under 23s and feels his game has got a lot better since but knows there is a lot of hard work ahead.
He said: “I have pushed on this season further than I thought, I have been playing with the Under 23s regularly. I was with the Under 18s at the start but I have worked hard, got my head down and now I am here.
“It was a bit of surprise, I was training with the 18s for the first week then they pushed me up to the 23s for pre-season and I haven’t looked back since. It has been a challenge, the physicality and the intensity is higher and you have to adapt to the game with those players.
“I just have to keep my head down and keep working now. Forest is a club that likes to push youngsters on and you have seen that in the past so it is a great place for me to be.”
Under 23s head coach Andy Reid said that Gibson-Hammond still has plenty of work to do but he has been pleased with his progress since making the step up to join his group.
He said: “I am delighted we have agreed to keep working with Alex, he is a player who excites us in possession and is improving out of possession all the time. His development since pre-season has been fantastic.
“As an Under 18, he has managed to make himself a regular in the Under 23s team and it shows that if players work hard and perform they will progress quickly at our academy. I’m looking forward to seeing how he continues to improve and for Alex the hard work starts now.”
