Forest hope to pick themselves up from the 5-1 cup defeat against Swansea City and put in a positive performance that will see them get back to winning ways in the Sky Bet Championship and lift them away from the relegation zone.
Hughton conceded that there is slightly more pressure riding on the next few games due to their recent form but hopes to kickstart the next few weeks with victory.
Speaking before the game, he said: “That’s the nature of the game and that [pressure] comes with it. That’s the responsibility that me and the players have, and we must put in a performance that enables us to get a result. We know that we need to bounce back from last week and the only way you can do that is by putting in a performance good enough to take points from the next game.”
Hughton expects a tough affair against a Barnsley side currently sitting 12th in the Sky Championship, ten points above Forest but, having already seen how The Tykes tend to play when the two sides met at Oakwell earlier in the season, The Reds' boss is hoping his side can be more profitable in front of goal this time around.
He continued: “Barnsley have done very well. They have a way of playing and have had what you would regard as relative success in terms of results that they’ve got and their league position in playing that way.
“We sampled it when we played them away and I wouldn’t say they’ve changed that much. They might have tweaked a few things which any manager can do but I think in a way of playing it’ll be very similar.
“We just hope that we can have the chances that we had in that game which we didn’t capitalise on, but we expect a very tough game against a team that is having a good season so far.”
New signing Filip Krovinovic could be in line to make his Forest debut after joining on loan from Benfica, having had an enjoyable first week training with his new teammates and Hughton expressed his delight at how quickly the new man has settled in and says he is contention to feature this weekend.
He said: “He’s settled in really well. I think it helps that he’s a genuinely nice lad. He really wants to play and do well, he’s very good and I’m sure when you speak to him, you’ll see that as well. He’s got a great personality and is very enthusiastic so we hope that we can get out of him what he’s shown us in training so far.
