Head Coach Steve Cooper has named defender Joe Worrall as the club's new captain, with Ryan Yates named as vice-captain ahead of the forthcoming Premier League campaign.

Worrall is handed the armband as The Reds return to the English top-flight for the first time in 23 years, and has so far amassed over 180 appearances in the Garibaldi.

After making his senior debut for Forest in October 2016, the 25-year-old has been a highly consistent performer and already has experience of captaining The Reds on numerous occassions over the last couple of campaigns.

On his appointment, Worrall admits how proud he is to be leading Forest into the 2022/23 Premier League season.

"First of all, I'd like to thank Steve Cooper and the coaching staff for giving me this opportunity." he said.

"To be given the chance to captain my hometown club means so much to me and it's an absolute honour, and I say that with all my heart.

"All I've ever wanted to do since I was a kid was to play for Forest, so to captain them too is a dream come true. I've been here 7-8 years and worked under some great captains, and I know what's demanded of us."

After naming Worrall as the club's new captain, Cooper says it's a role which will only see Worrall continue to grow further both on and off the pitch.

"Joe is a tremendous lad and really embodies everything we're looking to create here at the club," he said.

"Since the day I walked into the building it was clear Joe has the respect of the dressing room and his performances on the pitch are full of drive, leadership and quality which is something that inspires those around him.

"I'm looking forward to seeing him continue to grow and flourish in his new role ahead of what will be an exciting season for the club."

With Yates also confirmed as vice-captain, the 24-year-old midfielder says he's looking forward to taking on his new role.

"It's a huge honour and it shows the amount of trust that Steve Cooper has shown in me and I'm looking forward to having that extra responsibilty," he said.

Yates played a key role in for The Reds during last season’s promotion campaign and Cooper has only positive words regarding his new vice-captain.

"Yatesy is similar to Joe in terms of constantly looking to raise the levels of both himself and his teammates, and is a player that excelled last season.

"We're delighted to have both Joe and Ryan in their new roles and it'll stand us in good stead ahead of what we know will be a tough but exciting Premier League season."
