Having joined The Reds for a club-record fee on Friday morning, we take a closer look at Morgan Gibbs-White's career so far and profile his journey to The City Ground...

The 22-year-old was born in Stafford on 27th January 2000 and joined the Wolverhampton Wanderers Academy at the age of eight, before progressing through the youth ranks and debuting for the first team at 16 in an FA Cup clash against Stoke City in January 2017.

Gibbs-White's league debut would follow a month later just after his 17th birthday, stepping off the bench during a Sky Bet Championship clash at home to Wigan Athletic before making his first start on 8th April 2017 away at Bristol City.

After signing a new long-term contract in January 2018, Gibbs-White appeared 13 times for Wolves as the Molineux side earned promotion to the Premier League, where the attacking midfielder would go on to make his debut in the English top-flight in a 2-2 draw against Everton on the opening day of the 2018/19 campaign.

The following 2019/20 season would bring more milestones for Gibbs-White, helping Wolves navigate a way through Europa League qualifying by scoring his first senior goal against Pyunik Yerevan before making 4 further appearances as Wolves eventually bowed out at the quarter final stage.

In August 2020, Gibbs-White linked up with Steve Cooper at Swansea after signing on a season-long loan. He scored on his debut against Preston North End and despite an injury that ruled him out for over two months, his form was enough to earn an early recall to Wolves the following January to play a part in the second half of the Premier League campaign.

Gibbs-White scored his first Premier League goal for Wolves in May 2021, netting an injury-time winner against Brighton & Hove Albion to secure a 2-1 victory against The Seagulls.

In search of more regular minutes, and after netting for Wolves in the Carabao Cup against Forest last August, Gibbs-White joined Sheffield United for the duration of the 2021/22 campaign, a season which yielded an impressive 11 goals and nine assists in 35 Championship appearances for The Blades.

His performances earned rave reviews and saw Gibbs-White awarded Sheffield United Player of the Season as the side from South Yorkshire came up just short against The Reds in the play-off semi final, with our latest recruit scoring in the second leg at The City Ground to force the tie to extra-time and penalties.

International career

Gibbs-White began his international journey with England at Under 16 level, starting and scoring the opening goal in a 2-2 draw against USA Under 17s in March 2016.

The following season saw Gibbs-White step up to Under 17 level which is where he would work with Steve Cooper for the first time. A memorable Under 17 World Cup campaign in 2017 saw the Young Lions crowned World Champions which Gibbs-White playing a starring role alongside the likes of Phil Foden, Conor Gallagher and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The attacking midfielder started and scored in the quarter final against USA before scoring his second of the tournament in a convincing 5-2 final victory against Spain in the final to mark a memorable summer for both Cooper and Gibbs-White.

Since his World Cup winning exploits, Gibbs-White has been capped at Under 18, Under 19 level before making his England Under 21 debut in June 2019 against Croatia in the UEFA Euro U21 Championships.
