  • Forest Women defeated by Manchester City Women in Vitality FA Women's Cup fourth round
  • 3,994 in attendance at The City Ground

Head Coach Andy Cook made six changes to the side which beat Sheffield FC 2-0 on Thursday night, with Hayley James, Charlotte Steggles, Naomi Powell, Rachel Brown, Charlotte Greengrass and Amy West all being introduced to the starting line-up.

The WSL side took the lead inside two minutes, with Caroline Weir firing beyond Emily Batty at the near post from Lauren Hemp's cut back.

England international Lucy Bronze then whistled a ball across goal which evaded everybody, before Janine Beckie saw an effort from distance saved down low by Batty a couple of minutes later.

City continued to have most of the possession, with Bunny Shaw heading an effort wide at the near post from close-range.

Beckie then received the ball inside the area before rifling a shot at goal, with Batty palming her powerful effort away from danger.

In the 18th minute, Demi Stokes' looping cross nearly found the far corner but for an acrobatic stop by Batty. Charlotte Steggles then produced an excellent block to deny Shaw from sweeping a cross from the right home at the near post.

Midway through the first half, excellent pressing from The Reds in midfield saw Naomi Powell flick the ball into Hayley James' path, with the wing-back racing away down the right before seeing a cross cleared.

Shortly after the half hour, Forest had big appeals for a penalty waved away by the referee after Becky Anderson went down under the challenge of Alex Greenwood by the byline.

A couple of minutes later, Bunny Shaw doubled City's lead as she headed in Hemp's corner at the far post.

City had the ball in the net less than a minute later as Hemp tapped in at the back post, but the flag was raised for offside in the build-up and the goal was disallowed.

Two minutes before the interval, City made it 3-0. Alex Greenwood picked out Filippa Angeldahl with a long ball and the Swede found the bottom corner with a calm finish.

The whistle blew to mark the end of the first half with The Reds trailing 3-0 at the interval.

HALF-TIME: Forest Women 0-3 Manchester City Women

City made their first change at the break with Georgia Stanway replacing Alex Greenwood, before the second half got underway in front of a crowd of 3,994 at The City Ground.

Inside a minute of the second half, Charlotte Greengrass raced down the left-hand side and broke into the area before seeing her low cross cleared.

In the 49th minute, City made it 4-0 as Stanway got to the byline and rifled an effort beyond Batty from a tight angle.

Four minutes later, the visitors made it 5-0 through Hemp, who was picked out by Beckie inside the area and coolly fired across goal into the bottom corner.

Beckie fired a shot at goal which was parried by Batty into the path of Shaw who saw an effort kept out from two yards. Batty then did well to get down low and deny Weir from a tight angle.

Andy Cook made his first changes of the afternoon shortly before the hour mark with Rosie Axten and Jade Arber replacing Charlotte Greengreass and Naomi Powell.

City also made two more changes with Jess Park and Vicky Losada replacing Laura Coombs and Lauren Hemp.

Becky Anderson picked out Hayley James who advanced into the area and saw a dangerous cross punched away well by Ellie Roebuck.

Down the other end, Olivia Cook headed behind a cross from the left amid presence from City forward Shaw who looked to add to her tally.

In the 69th minute, Shaw did score her second goal of the game, capitalising on Emily Batty's slip before emphatically finding the top corner.

Two minutes later, the visitors made it 7-0 as Park got to the byline and pulled the ball back for Stanway to sweep home add her second goal of the game. It was Stanway's 63rd goal of her career, making her City Women's all-time leading goalscorer.

In the 74th minute, each team made two changes with Hayley James and Rachel Brown making way for Grace Walters and Mai Moncaster. Jemima Dahou and Ginny Lackey replaced Bunny Shaw and Caroline Weir for City.

With 15 minutes remaining, Stanway whistled a low cross just wide of the far post. Soon after, a quick City break resulted in Batty denying Lackey from inside the area, before an in-swinging cross was shot wide by Stanway.

With two minutes added on at the end of the contest, Stanway grabbed her hat-trick as she found the top corner with a left-footed effort.

The full-time whistle blew, with The Reds' Vitality FA Women's Cup campaign coming to an end.
