Forest Women are delighted to announce the arrival of Dutch striker Iris Achterhof.

The former Durham Women and Sunderland AFC Ladies forward becomes Andy Cook's second signing of the summer following the arrival of Mackenzie Smith last week.

A versatile player with an eye for goal, Iris started her career in Holland before representing Old Dominion University’s women’s soccer team in America between 2015 and 2019.

A spell in Iceland followed before moving to England and now links up with The Reds ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

On joining Forest Women, Iris said: "After taking a step back from football due to mental health reasons, I was keen to get back playing, but the environment needed to be right.

"Forest is the perfect fit for me at this time, as a player and a person; the club is professional and ambitious, but the team feels like a family.

"I am very grateful for the opportunity and support from everyone at the club. Of course, the main goal is to win the league, so I just can’t wait to get back at it."

After adding his latest recruit, Head Coach Andy Cook said: "Iris has moved to the Midlands from the North East, so I know the staff she's worked with previously very well.

"After speaking with my contacts in the North East and having Iris in to train, we knew we had a talent on our hands straight away.

"Iris is a player with a fantastic level of experience having played in America and for Durham and Sunderland in the Women's Championship so we're delighted to welcome her here.

"Her arrival gives us more options and adds quality to our forward line. I'm delighted she's joining Forest and we look forward to working with her this season."

Forest Women return to Eastwood for their next home pre-season fixture against Newcastle United on Sunday 7th August, kick-off 2pm, with free entry for all supporters.
