Five of our Reds currently out-on-loan have been called up to represent their country at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which begins next week. Here, we take a closer look at who will be on the plane...
American goalkeeper Ethan Horvath has been named in the USMNT squad, with the 27-year-old shot-stopper being rewarded for his fine form on loan at Luton Town this season with a place in Gregg Berhalter's 26-man squad.
Horvath has made 19 appearances so far for The Hatters, keeping eight clean sheets in the process as his side 10th in the Championship.
USA have been drawn in Group B and will begin their campaign against Wales on Monday 21st November before facing England on Friday 25th November and Iran on Tuesday 29th November.
Another player to have been called up to represent his nation is Costa Rica international Brandon Aguilera. The 19-year-old has been named in Luis Fernando Suárez’s squad and will look to build on his three caps to date.
The young midfielder, named alongside the likes of PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas and former Fulham man Bryan Ruiz, will share a difficult looking Group E with Spain, Japan and Germany.
Costa Rica face Spain in their opening fixture on Wednesday 23rd November before facing Japan on Sunday 27th November and Germany on Thursday 1st December.
Richie Laryea has been named in the Canada squad as his nation embark on only their second World Cup tournament in their history, having previously qualified on one occasion in 1986.
Canada will share Group F with Belgium, Morocco and Croatia, with their opening game against Belgium scheduled for Wednesday 23rd November, followed by Croatia on Sunday 27th November and Morocco on Thursday 1st December.
Laryea has 32 caps for his country since making his debut in 2019 and is seen as one of Canada’s key players heading into the tournament, alongside Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies and LOSC Lille forward Jonathan David.
Striker Hwang Ui-jo is another player who is set to feature in Qatar, with the on loan Olympiacos man being called up by South Korea.
Hwang’s nation will share Group H with Uruguay, Ghana and Portugal and start their campaign with the Uruguay clash on Thursday 24th November, before facing Ghana on Monday 28th November and Portugal on Friday 2nd December.
Alongside Hwang, South Korea will look to Tottenham star Hueng-min Son and Napoli’s Kim-Min-jae as key players to help them progress in the tournament.
Another player joining his nation in Qatar is full-back Mohamed Dräger, with the 26-year-old's place confirmed in the Tunisia squad this week.
The defender is enjoying a productive loan spell with Swiss Super League side FC Luzern, making 13 league appearances so far and scoring three goals.
Tunisia share Group D with Denmark, Australia and France, beginning their campaign on Tuesday 22nd November against Denmark, followed by Australia on Saturday 26th November before facing 2018 winners France on Wednesday 30th November.
We wish all of our players the best of luck for the tournament and congratulate them on their well-deserved call-ups.
