Nine of our ten Reds featured in the opening round of fixtures at the 2022 World Cup. Here, we take a closer look at how they've fared so far..

Three Reds were in action for Wales on Monday evening as they came from behind to earn a late 1-1 draw against USA.

Wales fell behind in the first half following Timothy Weah's 36th minute opener, before Gareth Bale's 86th minute penalty earned Rob Page's side a share of the points.

Wayne Hennessey and Neco Williams both started the Group B fixture, while Brennan Johnson replaced Williams on 79 minutes. The forward made an instant impact, playing an important role with a quick throw-in in the build up to the foul on Bale for the penalty.

Wales are next in action on Friday morning against Iran, kick-off 10:00 GMT, while USA face England on the same day at 19:00 GMT.

Senegal midfielder Cheikhou Kouyaté played 70 minutes for his nation as they began their World Cup campaign with a 2-0 defeat against the Netherlands.

The 32-year-old formed part of a three-man midfield for Aliou Cissé's men, coming up against the likes of Frenkie De Jong and Virgil van Dijk in the Oranje side.

Kouyaté picked up an injury with 20 minutes remaining which forced him to be substituted for further assessment, before Cody Gakpo and Davy Klaassen scored late goals to secure the win.

Alongside the Netherlands, Senegal share Group A with hosts Qatar and Ecuador and are next in action against Qatar on Friday, kick-off 13:00 GMT.

Remo Freuler earned his 50th cap for Switzerland as they began their World Cup campaign against Cameroon on Thursday morning.

The midfielder started alongside Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka in the heart of the Swiss midfield, playing the full 90 minutes during a 1-0 win.

The 30-year-old played a key role in the winning goal, playing a pass wide to Xherdan Shaqiri before Breel Embolo applied the finishing touch.

Next up for Switzerland is a fixture against Brazil on Monday afternoon, kick-off 16:00 GMT.

On Monday, goalkeeper Ethan Horvath was among the substitutes as USA drew 1-1 with Wales in Group B. 

Timothy Weah gave the United States a first half lead, slotting past Wayne Hennessey inside the area after being played through by Christian Pulisic.

Wales responded with an equaliser late in the second half, Brennan Johnson playing a key role in the build-up to a foul on Gareth Bale which gave Rob Page's side a penalty. Bale dispatched from the spot to ensure the points were shared.

USA face England on Friday evening, kick-off 19:00 GMT.

Mohamed Dräger started for Tunisia on Tuesday afternoon as his nation earned a 0-0 draw against Denmark in Group D.

The full-back, currently on loan with Swiss Super League side FC Luzern, played 88 minutes before being replaced by Wajdi Kechrida for the closing stages.

Tunisia are back in action against Australia on Saturday, kick-off 10:00 GMT.

Richie Laryea helped contribute to an impressive Canada performance on Wednesday evening as they were narrowly beaten by Belgium 1-0 in Qatar.

The 27-year-old started at right-wing back, with Michy Batshuayi netting the winning goal just before the break after Alphonso Davies saw a penalty saved by Thibaut Courtois.

Laryea and Canada will look to bounce back on Sunday against Croatia, kick-off 16:00 GMT.

Midfielder Brandon Aguilera entered the action for Costa Rica on Wednesday afternoon as they were beaten 7-0 by Spain.

The youngster appeared as a second half substitute, coming on in the 74th minute to earn his fourth cap for his nation.

Costa Rica return to Group E action on Sunday against Japan, who beat Germany 2-1 in their opening fixture.

South Korea striker Hwang Ui-jo started for his country as they faced Urugauy in a difficult Group H opener on Thursday afternoon.

The 30-year-old, who is currently on loan at Olympiacos, played 74 minutes as South Korea drew 0-0.

Hwang will be back in action on Monday against Ghana, kick-off 13:00 GMT.
