Goals from Ateef Konaté, Julian Larsson and Dale Taylor earned our Under-21s a 3-1 victory over Charlton Athletic in the Premier League Cup on Tuesday afternoon.

Dave Rogers' side started strongly at Princes Park and broke the deadlock inside three minutes. Alex Gibson-Hammond drove down the right flank before crossing for Konaté who converted at the far post.

Konaté, who forced Ahmed Kone into a good save shortly after, was instrumental as The Reds doubled their lead after the half hour. The Frenchman's powerful effort was parried only as far as Larsson and the Swede tapped in for his first goal of the campaign.

The Reds were also denied on the stroke of half-time when Dale Taylor saw a goalbound effort blocked by Matt Dench following good work by Gibson-Hammond, but were good value for their 2-0 lead at the break.

On 56 minutes, Forest made it 3-0 through Dale Taylor. The Northern Ireland international capitalised on poor possession from the hosts to find the back of the net.

The Reds were unable to keep a clean sheet as Charlton snatched a late consolation through Mack Reilly, but managed to mark the first group stage fixture with a win in Group A.
