Forest fell to an opening day defeat to Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime despite a valiant late push for an equaliser.
First-half goals from Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka put the Gunners two ahead at the break.
An improved second half display resulted in Taiwo Awoniyi pulling a goal back, but despite a valiant late effort, the hosts were to secure three points.
In an otherwise tight opening 10 minutes, The Reds had a golden opportunity to open the scoring. Brennan Johnson found himself in-behind the Arsenal defence and bearing down on goal, but he placed his effort off target.
Arsenal then began to grow into the game, and took the lead through Nketiah before the half hour. Gabriel Martinelli’s smart turn found the striker, who cut inside and fired an effort which Matt Turner was unable to keep out.
Five minutes later, Mikel Arteta’s side doubled their lead. Finding space on the edge of the area, Bukayo Saka picked out the top corner with a delightful effort 20 yards from goal to double Arsenal’s lead.
Trailing by two goals at the break, Steve Cooper freshened things up midway through the second half, making attacking changes which saw Taiwo Awoniyi and Anthony Elanga replace Danilo and Johnson, with Neco Williams also replacing Ola Aina.
Turner got down low to deny Declan Rice an opening day goal with a low effort from the edge of the box, before Forest had appeals for a handball waved away after Willy Boly’s close-range struck the England international.
With eight minutes left of the second half though, Forest found their goal through Awoniyi. Breaking away from a corner, the striker found Elanga who ran the length of the pitch before squaring for the Nigerian who emphatically fired home.
Chris Wood and Cheikhou Kouyaté replaced Joe Worrall and Orel Mangala as Forest searched for a dramatic late equaliser, having plenty of territory in the final third as time ticked down.
But after nine minutes of added time, Michael Oliver blew his whistle, as a positive late effort proved not enough.
