Chris Wood netted a hat-trick as Forest returned to winning ways with a thrilling 3-1 victory over Newcastle United at St. James' Park on Boxing Day.

The Reds came from behind to produce an excellent turnaround, as Nuno Espírito Santo picked up his first win as Head Coach.

Forest found themselves behind when Alexander Isak won himself a penalty after going down under the challenge of Ola Aina. The Swedish forward stepped up to convert from 12 yards.

But this didn't disrupt Forest's momentum as The Reds continued to create chances, with Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga both coming close.

A minute into added time in the first half, Forest found a deserved equaliser. Gibbs-White led another dangerous break before slipping in Elanga who played the ball across goal for Wood to convert from close-range.

The Reds made an electric start to the second half, and took the lead on 53 minutes. Elanga threaded the ball through for Wood who worked his way past Sven Botman before lobbing Martin Dúbravka and finding the net for his brace.

On the hour, Wood made it a remarkable hat-trick on his return to St. James' Park, latching onto Murillo's through ball before rounding Dúbravka and slotting home.

Santo's men defended superbly for the remainder of the contest, recording a second away win of the campaign in the final away fixture of 2023.
