We are pleased to announce that Josh Powell and Joe Gardner have signed new contracts with the Club.

The duo have both progressed through the ranks at the Nigel Doughty Academy and established themselves as key players for Warren Joyce’s B Team this season, having both impressed during pre-season including the First Team’s camp in Spain.

Powell has made nine appearances in Premier League 2 this season, registering two assists. The left-back also scored against Carlisle United in the EFL Trophy before captaining The Reds against Accrington Stanley in the following group stage fixture.

Head of Academy Chris McGuane said: “We are delighted to see Josh sign a new contract at the club and give him an opportunity to further develop as a player with us.

“He has continued to improve since the start of the season and we look forward to working with him, and watching his continued progress, as he is a young player with great potential.”

Gardner, 18, has also been a regular under Joyce, with the exciting young forward making seven appearances in Premier League 2 and three appearances in the EFL Trophy.

McGuane added: “We are equally delighted that Joe has decided to commit his future to the club and signed a new contract.

“Joe is a talented player and a respected young man who deserves the opportunity to extend his time with us.

“We all look forward to continuing our journey with Joe in the years to come.”
