Forest Women were in league action on Sunday afternoon as Huddersfield Town Ladies were the visitors to Halbrooke Stadium in the Northern Premier Division.
Andy Cook made one change to the side that defeated Boldmere St. Michaels last Sunday, with Arryana Daniels replacing the injured Hayley James.
The hosts started brightly with striker Sophie Domingo working an opening at goal in the 6th minute but the shot was blocked by an opposition defender.
After a quiet 15-minute period for both sides, it was The Reds who broke the deadlock through Charlotte Steggles as the number 6 tapped the ball home following a goal mouth scramble in the 20th minute.
Reds’ captain Lyndsey Harkin picked out Charlotte Greengrass in the box soon after, the latter’s header was comfortably saved by the Town ‘keeper.
With 10 minutes remaining in the first half Domingo and Greengrass both had opportunities to double Forest’s lead but the duo both had their efforts blocked by the Terriers’ defence.
42 minutes in and Becky Anderson’s free kick was claimed by the Huddersfield ‘keeper as The Reds entered half time with a one goal lead.
Half-time: Nottingham Forest 1-0 Huddersfield Town
Forest started the second half strongly with a free kick in a dangerous area being cleared well by the visiting defence on 47 minutes.
In the 53rd minute Yasmin Mosby came close when her header hit the opposition bar.
Forest found a second goal in the 62nd minute when Greengrass fired home an excellent strike from inside the Terriers’ penalty area.
Mosby worked another opportunity at goal on 71 minutes after carrying the ball from inside The Reds’ half to the visitors box before seeing her shot saved at the far post.
Greengrass had her second and Forest’s third of the afternoon in the 74th minute after some brilliant play from Domingo to set up the number 22, with the striker making no mistake from close range.
Head Coach Cook looked to freshen things up with 15 minutes remaining by introducing Gianna Mitchell, Rosetta Taylor and Niamh Reynolds as Greengrass, Mosby and Domingo made way.
Substitute Mitchell wasted no time in making an impact when her header went just over the opposition bar in the 76thminute.
There was another change for The Reds when Naomi Powell made her return from injury to replace Anderson.
The visitors were reduced to 10 players in the 86th minute following a foul on Mitchell, the striker being fouled as she ran through on goal.
Harkin and Powell combined with a short-corner routine to pick out Mitchell, whose header was brilliantly saved by the Town ‘keeper to keep The Reds' tally at three.
