The Reds were back in league action for the first time since their 12-1 win against AFC Fylde at Kellamergh Park.

Head Coach Andy Cook made three changes to the side that beat Burnley in the League Cup quarter final last weekend as Emily Batty returned in goal for Aja Aguirre, while Mai Moncaster and Niamh Reynolds replaced Naomi Powell and Arryana Daniels.

Forest made a strong start to the game when Reds’ captain, Lyndsey Harkin, found Yasmin Mosby with a corner at the far post but the striker fired wide.

The visitors were rewarded for their early pressure when Sophie Domingo was fouled in the box and was awarded a penalty. Charlotte Steggles stepped up to take the penalty and made no mistake to give Forest the lead in the eighth minute.

On 12 minutes the hosts had their first chance of the game with the Town striker shooting high over the bar.

Hayley James worked well to find Mosby with an excellent cross into the box but Mosby’s header was well saved by the Terriers’ ‘keeper.

The Reds doubled their advantage in the 26th minute when the ball was bundled home by an opposition player after a scramble in the area.

The visitors continued to push for another goal with Charlotte Greengrass having a flurry of chances, including having a shot saved well after excellent work from Moncaster and Domingo out wide.

Half time: Huddersfield Town 0-2 Nottingham Forest

Forest came out strong after the break and on 47 minutes extending their lead with Greengrass firing her volley into the back of the Huddersfield net.

Steggles and Greengrass both had chances before the hour mark, although the best chance fell to Domingo who fired her shot over the bar.

65 minutes in and Becky Anderson had a shot go just wide of the far post, as Cook looked to freshen up his side with Laura-Jayne O’Neill and Powell replacing Reynolds and Mosby.

The hosts were reduced to 10 players in the 75th minute when the Terriers’ goalkeeper fouled Domingo as The Reds’ striker was through on goal.

From the resulting free kick, Anderson hit the Town bar befre Steggles’ rebounded shot was brilliantly saved by the substitute ‘keeper.

Cook again looked to his bench as the game entered its final 10 minutes with Gianna Mitchell, Lauren Purchase and Rosetta Taylor being introduced as Moncaster, Greengrass and Domingo came off.

Late on, Anderson found the back of the net with a good finish, however the goal was ruled out for an offside earlier on in the move.

Full-time: Huddersfield Town 0-3 Nottingham Forest

Andy Cook’s side now have a three point lead at the top of the division after winning nine of their 11 league games.

The Reds face eighth placed Liverpool Feds in another away fixture on Sunday 5th February in the Northern Premier Division.
