Steve Cooper was satisfied with his side's defensive performance against PSV Eindhoven on Sunday, but was left frustrated after being unable to capitalise in good moments in the final third.
The Reds were edged out by the Eredivisie side in a tight encounter in Eindhoven, with Johan Bakayoko's second-half strike the difference between the two sides.
Speaking to Forest TV post-match, the Head Coach offered his thoughts on the performance, the return of Morgan Gibbs-White and a debut for Ola Aina at Philips Stadion.
On the result and performance
"It's a bit more than getting minutes in the legs now we're getting closer to the start of the season.
"Some players made their first starts in Serge (Aurier), Morgan (Gibbs-White), Chris Wood, Ola Aina with his first game for the club, so it's still a bit of a mix-and-match group in terms of player status.
"With all of that in mind, I thought we were definitely better with the ball at times, we were certainly better than what we showed against Leeds.
"Some of our build-up play was good, I thought we got into some good positions which we didn't capitalise on and make the most of.
"There were only a couple of threatening moments, when really we could have created a lot more. I think that's natural with Morgan's first game, Chris' first start, Serge joining back in, it's stuff that will come from time.
"Apart from a really poor goal that we conceded, we've given a team that is going to play in Europe in the next couple of weeks not much, so defensively I thought we were fairly sound.
"There were definitely positives to take from the game, but I'll always want more and we need more for sure."
On the defensive performance
"We had to be solid against a team like this who had a good campaign last season, they have really good players and they are ahead of us in terms of their games and minutes.
"They play their first competitive game next week whereas we have another week to prepare. You saw that they didn't make many substutions whereas we had to make quite a lot.
"We definitely came up against a team that are a bit further down the line than us, so with that in mind, I thought we were decent defensively."
On Morgan and Ola's first starts of pre-season
"It's positive to get more good players on the pitch. The more players we have available for games, the better.
"It was good to get Ola on the pitch, I thought he was excellent and showed some really good moments.
"To have Morgan back was great as well, to get him back up to speed. He did some good things in the first half and tired out a bit in the second half which is normal.
"We've just got to keep building our way and keep building individual progress to try and get ourselves into a position where, in a couple of weeks, we're good to go."
