Forest Women secured three points against Wolves with goals from Manders and Worsey.

Forest Women returned to league action on Sunday as they hosted Wolverhampton Wanderers at Grange Park.

Carly Davies’ side were aiming to bounce back from defeat in the League Cup last weekend against fellow Northern Premier Division side Newcastle United.

The Reds’ Head Coach made one change from Newcastle away as Mai Moncaster returned to the starting eleven, elsewhere Olivia Cook dropped to the bench.

It was a quiet opening to the match with a hard-fought battle in the midfield for possession as both sides aimed to make the breakthrough.

The visitors were reduced to ten as Tammi George made an early exit after receiving two bookings for multiple late challenges by the midfielder.

Forest were awarded a penalty in the 29th minute after Charlotte Greengrass was fouled in the area. Holly Manders stepped up from 12 yards and slotted home the opening goal.

Wolves looked for their equaliser as the interval was fast approaching with Emily Batty forced into two saves to deny the visitors.

Louanne Worsey had a sight of goal just before the half-time whistle as her effort was saved at the near post.

The Reds started the second half brightly with a lovely passage of play between Manders and Nat Johnson to pick out Greengrass in the box whose effort hit the woodwork.

Carly Davies introduced Sophie Domingo with half an hour remaining as Mai Moncaster made way.

It was almost an instant impact from Domingo as she worked an opportunity through on goal, but the number 7 dragged her shot wide.

With 10 minutes left on the clock Worsey found the back of the net with a brilliant finish after Abi Cowie picked out the forward with an inch-perfect cross.

Niamh Reynolds was introduced as the match entered the final stages, Greengrass made way.
