Forest were defeated 3-0 by Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Head Coach Steve Cooper made two changes to the side which drew 2-2 with Luton Town last time out, with the goalscorer that day, Chris Wood, missing out through a hamstring injury.

Following a moment’s applause before kick-off for Sir Bobby Charlton and Bill Kenwright, Liverpool began the game on the front foot and occupied plenty of dangerous positions in the opening stages.

Forest struggled to create any real clear cut chances in the first half, with their first sight of goal coming as Anthony Elanga rolled an effort beyond the far post before the offside flag was raised.

On the half hour, the hosts took the lead. A quick counter-attack resulted in Darwin Núñez’s shot parried into the path of Diogo Jota who rolled the ball into an empty net.

Five minutes later, the hosts doubled their lead. Intricate play between Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai saw the latter pull the ball back across goal for Núñez to bundle home.

Trailing by two goals at the break, Forest looked to ignite a response in the second half, with Morgan Gibbs-White pulling the ball back for Nico Domínguez who was unable to connect from a dangerous central area.

Cooper made a triple change shortly after as Domínguez, Willy Boly and Ola Aina made way for Taiwo Awoniyi, Ryan Yates and Harry Toffolo.

Chasing the game, Forest found themselves three goals down on 77 minutes. Szoboszlai’s long ball wasn’t dealt with by Matt Turner and Toffolo, allowing Salah to find an empty net for 3-0.

Neco Williams and Andrey Santos replaced Orel Mangala and Gibbs-White with seven minutes of normal time remaining, before Elanga rattled the crossbar from close-range with a vicious left-footed volley.
