Forest Women defeat The Baggies on the road in the FA WNL North.

Forest Women travelled to the West Midlands to face West Brom in the FA Women’s National League North.

Carly Davies named an unchanged starting eleven from the Forest side that defeated Solihull Moors 5-0 in the FA WNL Cup last Sunday.

It was a quiet opening quarter to the match with neither side creating any significant opportunity to score.

A moment of brilliance from Freya Thomas provided The Reds with the lead as the midfielder fired a stunning strike into the top corner for her first goal since returning to Nottingham Forest.

Forest soon had their second of the afternoon when Holly Manders’ corner picked out Lyndsey Harkin at the back post. The captain’s header reached Charlotte Greengrass to double the visitor’s lead.

Becky Anderson had an opportunity to extend the lead before the break; the number 19’s shot was well blocked by the West Brom defence.

Thomas almost had her brace when Nat Johnson’s low cross reached Thomas in the box, the resulting effort going just wide of the far post.

Mollie Green was introduced minutes before the hour mark with Chloe Dixon making way.

Forest had their third of the game when Anderson won the ball back deep into the West Brom half, the midfielder then set up Greengrass for her fifth goal of the season.

With 15 minutes remaining in the league fixture Carly Davies introduced Laura-Jayne O’Neill for Hayley James.

The Reds conceded a penalty in the final ten minutes; Emily Batty denied the hosts from the spot with a brilliant save.

Niamh Reynolds made an appearance off the bench as Holly Manders made way.

The hosts did have their first goal in the 90th minute to deny The Reds their clean sheet.

Mai Moncaster fired an excellent long-ranged effort into the back-of-the-net to restore the three-goal advantage for Forest.
