Forest were held to an opening day draw against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

Nuno Espírito Santo began with Matz Sels in goal and a back four of Neco Williams, Willy Boly, Murillo and Ola Aina.

Ibrahim Sangaré anchored the midfield alongside Danilo, with Morgan Gibbs-White, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Anthony Elanga supporting Chris Wood in attack.

But the game began in an unfortunate manner as Danilo went up for a challenge with Antoine Semenyo before landing awkwardly. The Brazilian was stretchered off to a standing ovation from both sets of supporters, as Ryan Yates entered the Frey.

On 22 minutes, Forest broke the deadlock. The ball fell kindly for Yates whose shot from the edge of the area was parried by Neto, but Wood was on-hand to fire into the bottom corner with a superb first-time finish for 1-0.

Bournemouth thought they had found a leveller shortly after when Dango Ouattara fired home following a goalmouth scramble from a short corner, but VAR intervened the goal was ruled out for offside.

With 11 minutes of time added on following Danilo’s injury, Sels produced a big save to deny Ouattara on the break, before Boly cleared the ball to safety.

After half-time, it was Boly who came extremely close to doubling Forest’s lead as he rose highest to meet Hudson-Odoi’s corner, but his header was well saved by Neto from point-blank range.

But as the contest entered its latter stages, Bournemouth found a late equaliser. Substitute Harry Toffolo’s clearance took an unfortunate ricochet off Murillo, allowing Semenyo to bundle the ball home.

Gibbs-White saw a late effort well blocked as he looked to win the game for Forest, but The Reds’ first opening home game in five years ended level.

FULL-TIME: Forest 1-1 AFC Bournemouth
