Nottingham Forest Academy can confirm Jamie McDonnell has joined Colchester United on a season-long loan.
The midfielder recently signed a new contract at Forest, and having spent much of last season captaining the B Team, this move represents a next step in McDonnell’s development playing senior football in a competitive division.
McDonnell will join Northern Ireland counterpart Aaron Donnelly at the League Two side, who played the full 90 minutes for The U’s on debut in their Carabao Cup game against Brentford.
Head of Football Development and Talent Management, Craig Mulholland, said: “Jamie recently signed an extended contract as we are excited to see him develop, and this carefully selected loan is the perfect next step on his individual journey.
“He will join Aaron Donnelly at Colchester under the guidance of Danny Cowley and our new excellent Player Pathways staff lead by Chris Brass will ensure Forest support every aspect of his time outside the building. We all wish Jamie good luck and I’m sure he’ll be a be a massive success.”
