Nottingham Forest can confirm Alex Mighten has joined MLS side San Diego on a permanent deal.

The winger, who was born in the United States, heads to the California-based side ending a 14-year association with The Reds having joined the Academy in 2010.

Having made his debut for Forest in the Carabao Cup against Arsenal in September 2019, Mighten has gone on to make more than 60 first team appearances for The Reds.

The 2019/20 campaign was a season of firsts for Mighten, earning a start in the FA Cup against Chelsea and then a league debut the following month against QPR at The City Ground.

Mighten has regularly featured for England at youth level, has enjoyed successful loan spells, and been a hugely important figure within the B Team.

After spending the first half of last season in Belgium at KV Kortrijk, Mighten joined Port Vale in January to spend the rest of the campaign at the League One side.

He now heads to America to embark on a new challenge, leaving the Club with the well wishes of all of the staff.

Head of Academy, Chris McGuane, said: “We would like to wish Alex all the very best as he embarks on a new exciting challenge away from Nottingham Forest.

“Since joining the Academy over 14 years ago, Alex has always represented us in a fantastic way and is another player we are proud of to have graduated from our Academy to play in the first team.

“Alex has shown local players from Nottingham that the pathway exists from the Academy to progress, and he will always be welcome back to the Club.”
