Forest were beaten 3-2 by Newcastle United at The City Ground on Saturday night.

The Reds had the first good chance of the contest as Morgan Gibbs-White shot wide from Nuno Tavares’ cut-back.

But four minutes later, Forest fell behind when Bruno Guimarães volleyed home from a cross from the right-hand side.

Anthony Elanga looked to ignite a rapid response when he beat Dan Burn for pace down the right-hand side before forcing Martin Dúbravka into a good save.

But the winger did then find a leveller as latched too Gibbs-White’s through ball before prodding beyond the goalkeeper into the net.

A minute before the break, Newcastle found themselves back in front when Fabian Schär converted from close-range.

But six minutes into added time, Forest quickly got themselves back on level terms again when Callum Hudson-Odoi’s deflected strike found the net.

Four minutes into the second half, Forest found the net as Taiwo Awoniyi finished emphatically from close-range, but the offside flag was raised shortly after.

Shortly after the hour, Matz Sels’ long kick up the pitch found Awoniyi in-behind the Newcastle defence. The striker controlled and went down inside the area, but after a VAR check, nothing was given.

Then, three minutes later, Guimarães finished from the edge of the area into the bottom corner to put Newcastle ahead.

Forest pushed for another equaliser in the latter stages of the contest, but were unable to find a third goal.
