Forest B Team fell to a heavy 5-0 defeat in Premier League 2 on Friday night against Sunderland at Meadow Lane.

It was a 15-minute spell that condemned The Reds, as four quickfire goals in the middle of the first half gave the hosts a mountain to climb, with the visitors then adding a late fifth in second-half injury time.

Despite a bright start from Forest with plenty of attacking impetus, it was Sunderland who broke the deadlock after 19 minutes as Timothée Pembélé threaded through a ball to Elizer Mayenda who made no mistake at the near post.

The Black Cats then quickly added a second, as a rebounded ball inside the box dropped at the feet of Thomas Watson, who poked his effort past Harry Griffiths in the Forest goal.

Sunderland made it three just minutes later, as Michael Spellman worked his way into the box and drilled an effort low into the bottom corner.

Mayenda then struck again before half-time as a deflection saw the striker race through on goal, with the Spaniard making no mistake to see his side into a convincing lead at the halfway stage.

The Reds regrouped at the interval and came out after the break on the front foot, as an early corner was met by the head of Ben Perry who saw his effort whistle over the bar.

Brandon Aguilera then attempted to get his side back into the game as his long-ranged effort tested Matthew Young in the opposition goal, but the shot was held well.

Down the other end Tom Chiabi threatened to make it five as his strike from outside the area made its way past Griffiths but cannoned off the outside of the post.

Forest substitute Ateef Konaté provided a late spark for The Reds and the Frenchman forced Young into an acrobatic save following a vicious strike.

It was Sunderland who grabbed the next goal however, extending their lead to five a minute into stoppage time as Caden Kelly buried an effort into the bottom corner.

The Reds remain 16th in the PL2 table and return to action next week as they travel to the John Smith’s Stadium to face Huddersfield.
