Five Forest players were in action during the first round of group stage games at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ibrahim Sangaré, Ola Aina and Moussa Niakhaté all started for their countries, while Serge Aurier and Willy Boly came off the bench and Cheikhou Kouyaté was an unused substitute.

Ibrahim Sangaré, Serge Aurier, Wily Boly | Ivory Coast 2-0 Guinea-Bissau 

Sangaré started and played 89 minutes for Ivory Coast during the host nation’s 2-0 opening night win against Guinnea-Bissau on Saturday.

Meanwhile Aurier played the entire second half and Boly came on towards the end of the game.

Seko Fofana gave the Elephants an early lead, with Jean-Philippe Krasso doubling the advantage just before the hour mark.

Ivory Coast face Nigeria in their second group stage game on Thursday 18th January, 5pm GMT.

Ola Aina | Nigeria 1-1 Equatorial Guinea

Aina started and played 83 minutes in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea on Sunday afternoon.

The Super Eagles went behind on 36 minutes to an Iban Salvador goal, before Victor Osimhen equalised just two minutes later. Aina was denied a goal in the second half by a good save from Jesus Owono.

Nigeria’s second group stage game is against Ivory Coast on Thursday 18th January, 5pm GMT.

Moussa Niakhaté, Cheikhou Kouyaté | Senegal 3-0 Gambia

Niakhaté started and played 81 minutes for Senegal on Monday afternoon, keeping a clean sheet in their 3-0 win against Gambia, while Kouyaté was an unused substitute.

The Lions of Teranga took an early lead through Pape Gueye, with Lamine Camara netting twice in the second half.

Senegal are next in action against Cameroon in their second group stage game on Friday 19th January, 5pm GMT.
