Abbott was a regular under Joyce this season, establishing himself as a key cog in defence whilst also stepping into midfield on a number of occasions, displaying versatility in his game.

Head of Academy Chris McGuane said: "It is fantastic recognition that Zach has been shortlisted for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season and he deserves to be in contention for winning this award. Zach has also achieved academically this season in the classroom and his dedication has seen him achieve a Triple Distinction Star in his BTEC and a Distinction in his Sporting Excellence Programme."

"Zach is a fantastic person who is a credit to his family and our Academy. We wish him well with this nomination."
