Forest made it two wins from two in the Premier League Cup after beating Coventry City 2-0 thanks to second-half goals from Archie Whitehall and Kristian Fletcher.
Forest aimed to secure their second consecutive victory in the Premier League Cup following a hard-fought 2-1 win against Leicester City U21s earlier this week.
From the outset, they established themselves as the dominant side, showcasing their attacking prowess. Berry initiated an electrifying run down the flank, forcing Coventry’s goalkeeper Racheal to make the first save of the evening with a well-placed shot. Just minutes later, Forest’s Shea Cahill found himself in a promising position at the edge of the penalty area, but his close-range effort sailed high over the crossbar.
As the first half progressed, Forest maintained possession and tried to control the game, but they struggled to convert their dominance into clear-cut scoring opportunities. Then, in a pivotal moment just before half-time, Forest earned a penalty when Danny Anisjko was brought down with the referee pointing to the spot.
Unfortunately for Forest, Connor Brown's attempt from the penalty spot clipped the left post, resulting in a goal kick for Coventry.
HALF TIME: Forest 0-0 Coventry
The turning point came in the second half when Forest finally broke the deadlock. Whitehall delivered a brilliant volley from the edge of the box, sending the ball curling into the bottom right corner, beyond the reach of Coventry’s keeper, and giving Forest a well-deserved lead from the first-half dominance with the ball.
Forest continued to push for a second sending on Nadin, and Fletcher to add more attacking power for Forest. Not long after, the newly introduced Fletcher made an immediate impact, letting the ball run across his body before unleashing a powerful shot into the top corner. Doubling Forest’s lead and with the away side now 2-0 down, Forest looked poised to claim a well-deserved victory.
The back four of Forest deserved some credit in the final few minutes for keeping the clean in place making some virtual blocks and interceptions and staying top of the table with six points after two games.
