ROUTE TO THE FINAL

The Reds kicked off their cup campaign with a 6-0 victory over local rivals Notts County at Grange Park as five different players found the back of the net in a dominant win.

Next up was a tricky tie away at Division One North side Cheadle Town Stingers. Forest progressed thanks to a late winner from substitute Sophie Domingo to break the deadlock in Greater Manchester.

Peterborough United visited Grange Park in the second round as the two sides battled out for a place in the quarter-finals. The Reds hit Posh for six on home soil, including a brace from striker Mel Johnson.

Carly Davies’ side made the trip to Teesside to take on Middlesbrough in the hunt for a spot in the final four. Reds’ top scorer Charlie Wellings made the breakthrough early into the cup clash, before Lauren Robson’s stunning strike levelled the scores. The Reds wasted no time in regaining their lead as Freya Thomas slotted home from Lyndsey Harkin’s cross to secure victory on the road.

Forest were drawn against the Southern Premier Division league leaders, Hashtag United, in the semi-final as the 2022/23 champions, Forest, met the reigning champions, Hashtag United. In a tightly-contested encounter at Parkside, Charlie Wellings’ 86th minute penalty was enough to split the sides and book Forest’s place in the 2024/25 final.

The Reds now prepare for their second FA WNL Cup final in three years when they face Stoke City at the Bescot Stadium on Saturday 22 March. The two sides have already met twice this season in the Northern Premier Division with Carly Davies’ side running out winners on both occasions.

The Reds need all of your support in Walsall – don’t miss out on what promises to be an exciting cup final and purchase your tickets online here.
