Forest Women through to round four of the FA Cup after an extra-time win at The City Ground.
Forest hosted Burnley in FA Cup action as the two Northern Premier Division sides battled it out for a place in the fourth round.
Head Coach Carly Davies made two changes to the side that faced Middlesbrough in the FAWNL Cup quarter-finals as Kate Longhurst and Katie Dungate returned to the starting eleven.
Elsewhere, summer signing Naomi Bedeau was named in the matchday squad for the first time since returning from injury and there were places on the bench for academy players Jessica Jones and Grace Jones.
In a cagey opening to proceedings, neither side created an opportunity of note with Charlie Wellings coming closest for Forest when the forward was denied by a good stop only for the flag to be raised for offside.
It was Wellings once again leading the attacking threat for the hosts as the forward headed over from Millie Chandarana's cross before seeing her strike from within the area well saved.
The visitors, Burnley, had the best chance of the first 45 as Claudia Walker was played through one-on-one against keeper Emily Batty with The Reds’ number one coming out on top with an excellent stop to deny The Clarets an opener.
HALF-TIME: Nottingham Forest 0-0 Burnley
The return from the interval saw Forest start on the front foot as midfielder Freya Thomas danced through the Burnley defence only to be stopped by a good save from Kristie Levell at her near post.
The best chance of a tightly-contested cup tie fell to Burnley striker Heidi Logan when through on goal one-on-one, but the visitors were denied again thanks to another super save from Batty.
Carly Davies introduced Nat Johnson, Bridget Galloway and Holly Manders in the search of the opening goal; the closest Forest came to breaking the deadlock was Mel Johnson’s composed finish into the bottom corner which was ruled out due an offside call.
The midweek cup clash now faced another 30 minutes of action at The City Ground with extra time now awaiting the two sides.
FULL-TIME: Nottingham Forest 0-0 Burnley
Both sides pushed to make the breakthrough in the first half of extra time and it was the hosts that eventually provided the opening goal after 99 minutes as substitute Galloway’s header smashed against the woodwork and the rebound found it’s way to The Reds’ top scorer, Wellings, to fire home with a sweet strike.
The final substitution of the tie saw Jessica Hennessy enter the action for the closing stages of the third round tie, with Forest holding on to book their place in round four.
FULL-TIME (AET): Nottingham Forest 1-0 Burnley
