Nottingham Forest can confirm that Aaron Donnelly has been recalled from his loan at Colchester United and has joined Dundee on a permanent transfer.

Donnelly has enjoyed a successful season at Colchester, earning himself a spot as a regular starter for Danny Cowley’s side, making 22 appearances in all competitions.

The 21-year-old defender joined Forest in 2019 and quickly became a key member of the B Team squad. As well as his current loan spell, the Northern Irishman has enjoyed successful stints at Port Vale and Dundee, the Club he now joins on a permanent basis.

Donnelly’s performances have earned him recognition on the international stage and he made his first appearance for the senior Northern Ireland squad in June of last year.

Head of Academy, Chris McGuane, said “We would firstly like to thank Danny Cowley and Colchester for their cooperation and treatment of Aaron since he joined them earlier this season. His game has reached another level this year and he now has an opportunity to continue his development playing top division football.

“He has been an asset to the Academy both on and off the pitch and we wish him all the best for this next chapter in his career.”
