Nottingham Forest is delighted to confirm Chris Wood has signed a new contract, extending his stay on Trentside until the summer of 2027.

Having scored 14 league goals in the 2023/24 campaign, Wood’s record tally for a Premier League campaign was pivotal in helping the team secure status in the division. The New Zealand captain has been instrumental again this season and has already matched that tally with 16 league games still to play.

After a successful period at Burnley which led them to the Europa League, Wood then moved to Newcastle before signing for Forest on an initial loan deal in January 2023.

Having settled on Trentside, Wood’s form went to another level following the arrival of Nuno Espírito Santo in December 2023, with 25 of his 29 league goals for Forest coming under the Portuguese Head Coach. It represents the most Premier League goals for a Forest player under one manager, and this season Wood also became the Club's record goalscorer in the Premier League.

Wood scored a hat trick against one of his former sides at St. James’ Park on Boxing Day 2024 to secure Nuno’s first win as Head Coach, going on to net seven more times before the end of the season, including a brace on the final day at Burnley.

In the current campaign, Wood has started all but one league game and has on two separate occasions scored in four games in a row. He was named Premier League Player of the Month for October, becoming the first Nottingham Forest player to win the award.

He has six contributions in his last four games, continuing to play a vital role in the team’s good form.

Everyone at the Club would like to pass on their congratulations to Chris for the new deal, wishing him the best for the rest of the season and beyond.

On signing the extension, Wood said: “I’m very excited and very happy to have it completed and done, and I’m looking forward to the next couple of years, at least.

“I saw the ambition when I first arrived. When I spoke to the owner and his family and saw where they want to be and where they see this Club to be - it was clear they have high ambitions and big dreams. He has backed the Club for years, even before promotion to the Premier League, which is fantastic, and the team is pushing in the right direction.

“I’m excited for the future. This Club has a lot of potential to continue to grow and build, and that is what I want to be a part of. I can’t thank the fans enough, they always come in voice and they’re always behind the team and myself, it’s a pleasure playing in front of them. Here’s to a few more years together."

Owner Evangelos Marinakis said: “He has performed exceptionally well with us. More than just his goals, he epitomises everything that it means to wear the Garibaldi Red – hard work, a fighting and wining spirit, and the attitude to never give up. He is a winner and a role model to inspire all of us, and we reward his dedication with ours.”
