Plenty of players have donned Forest red and Ipswich Town blue down the years. Take a look back at the five we've highlighted from a few different eras.


Joe Garner

Joe Garner

Forest, 2008-2011 | 55 appearances

Ipswich Town, 2017-18 | 32 appearances

Joe Garner arrived Trentside as a promising youngster from Carlisle United in the summer of 2008, however with Forest boasting an attack of Robert Earnshaw and Dexter Blackstock, he found regular opportunities at The City Ground limited.

After eight goals in his first campaign with the Reds, Garner would add a further two in 2009/10 before spending time on loan with Scunthorpe United and Huddersfield Town in 2010/11.

Garner returned to first team action in 2011/12 before departing for Watford in the August of that season having made two appearances for the club.

After a season with Rangers, Garner moved to Ipswich Town in 2017, scoring 10 goals in 32 appearances for the Tractor Boys.


Paul Anderson

Paul Anderson

Forest, 2008-2012 | 132 appearances

Ipswich Town, 2013-2015 | 70 appearances

Paul Anderson initially joined Nottingham Forest on loan from Liverpool in 2008, before embarking on a journey with the Reds that would span another three seasons after his initial loan ended.

Despite an injury-hit loan spell Trentside, Anderson made 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice to help Forest preserve our Championship status in their first season back in the second tier.

Anderson would join the Reds on a permanent deal in the summer of 2009 and a fighting fit Anderson would become an integral part of the Forest squad.

73 appearances in the Championship with seven goals and 13 assists to his name as the Reds reached back-to-back play-off semi-finals with Anderson integral to the team’s success.

After leaving the club in 2012, Anderson would join Bristol City before moving on to Ipswich Town in 2013, helping the Tractor Boys reach the play-offs in his first season at Portman Road, before leaving Suffolk at the end of the 2014/15 campaign.


Marlon Harewood

Marlon Harewood

Forest, 1996-2003, 2011-2012 | 204 appearances

Ipswich Town, 1999 | six appearances

After progressing through the Nottingham Forest Academy, Marlon Harewood first left The City Ground in 1999, joining Ipswich Town on loan and going on to make six appearances before returning to NG2 and becoming a mainstay in the Forest side in 1998/99.

Harewood would make 198 appearances in his first spell with the club, scoring 54 goals and laying on two assists before leaving for West Ham United in 2003.

Six clubs and a spell in China later, and Harewood would return to Forest in 2011 on a four-month contract, making six appearances in all competitions but failing to hit the back of the net on Trentside.

He left the club in January 2012, playing for a further four clubs before retiring in 2016.


Luke Chambers

Luke Chambers

Forest, 2007-2012 | 229 appearances

Ipswich Town, 2012-2021 | 396 appearances

After starting his career with Northampton Town and spending four years with his first club, Luke Chambers moved to The City Ground in January 2007.

After initially being deployed as a full-back before moving back into the centre of the defence during the 2010/11 season.

His consistent performances in Forest colours saw him named Player of the Year in 2010/11and before the following season, he was named club captain.

 Chambers left Forest at the end of the 2011/12 season, moving to Ipswich Town, where over the course of nine years, he would make 396 appearances for the Tractor Boys, in that time being named captain in 2014/15.


Jack Colback

Jack Colback

Forest, 2018-19, 2020-2023 | 134 appearances

Ipswich Town, 2009-2011 | 54 appearances

Jack Colback enjoyed the 2009/10 season on loan with Ipswich Town from Sunderland, winning the Tractor Boys’ Player of the Season award for his performances at Portman Road.

He returned to Ipswich in January 2011 for his final loan spell with the Tractor Boys.

After leaving Sunderland for Newcastle United, Colback would spend 18 months on loan with Nottingham Forest from January 2018 to summer 2019.

After a season back on Tyneside, Colback returned to The City Ground permanently in August 2020, making 79 appearances for Forest.
