ROUTE TO THE FINAL

Forest’s cup campaign started back in August as The Reds defeated local rivals Notts County 6-0 at Grange Park in the Determining Round of the competition.

The next round saw Carly Davies’ side travel to Division One North outfit Cheadle Town Stingers with substitute Sophie Domingo’s 82nd minute strike enough to separate the two sides in round one.

A return to Grange Park in the second round when Forest hosted tier four side Peterborough United as five different players found the back of the net in a dominant display on home soil.

Forest faced Middlesbrough in their final fixture of 2024 as the two teams battled it out for a place in the final four. Charlie Wellings opened the scoring for the visitors before a Lauren Robson strike levelled the tie. Reds’ midfielder Freya Thomas slotted home with 15 minutes remaining on the clock as her side held onto the one-goal lead and progress in the cup.

The semi-final saw the FA WNL Cup holders, Hashtag United, host the 2022/23 winners, Forest, at Parkside. A tightly-contested clash saw the tie enter the final ten minutes with nothing separating the two, before Nat Johnson was fouled within the area; Wellings stepped from 12 yards and smashed home the winner.

Victory over Hashtag United saw The Reds book their place in the final of the FA WNL Cup for the second time in three years. Forest secured a dramatic 3-2 win over Watford in the 2022/23 final, the only time the Club has lifted the trophy.

This Saturday sees The Reds meet Stoke City at the Bescot Stadium as Carly Davies’ side hope to bring the FA WNL Cup back to Nottingham.

LAST TIME OUT

The two sides last met in November at The City Ground as Forest ran out 4-0 winners on Trentside with Kate Longhurst, Millie Chandarana, Hollie Olding and Freya Thomas all scoring for the home side.
