- Forest & Brighton to make history in the FA Cup
- Quarter-final to be first meeting in the competition
- Delve into the history of meetings between the sides
Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion are set to make history in the Emirates FA Cup this weekend.
The Reds and the Seagulls have never faced each other in the competition with Saturday’s quarter-final at the AMEX Stadium set to be the first.
Previously, the two sides have gone head-to-head in domestic cup competition, meeting twice in the EFL Cup, first in 1978 and again in 1986.
In 1978, John McGovern put the Reds ahead at The City Ground, before Peter Ward levelled the scores five minutes into the second period.
Goals from first John Robertson, then Gary Birtles secured Forest’s place in the semi-finals of the competition.

In later years, the two sides played out a goalless draw in Sussex in 1986, before Franz Carr’s brace and a Stuart Pearce penalty in the second leg recorded a 3-0 win for Forest and a place in the third round of the competition.
The first meeting between Forest and Brighton came in 1943 in Division Three when the two sides played out a 2-2 draw on the south coast.
Forest’s last victory in Sussex came in February 2015 when goals from Danny Collins, Henri Lansbury and Ben Osborn secured a 3-2 win for the Reds in the Championship.
In total, Forest have faced Brighton 43 times in all competitions since the first meeting in the 1940s.
The Reds have claimed the spoils in 18 of those matches, with the Seagulls winning 13. The remaining 12 games have resulted in draws.
